It has been an eventful time here in the States and the World.   We have seen so much hate and pain in Charleston, Kuwait, Tunisia and many other places.   We have seen the Supreme Court rule in favour of the Affordable Care Act and gay marriage.   What do we see from the politicians in this "Christian Country?"    The same old rhetoric about a Biblical Country.   Where are they living.   In response to a mailer I got from Texas Governor, Greg Abbott campaigning again the SCOTUS ruling.   He really, trying to be nice, does not get it.   I wrote the following e-mail in response.

Dear Governor Abbott,

With up most respect I have to strongly disagree with you on this issue.

Why?  I have a couple of major issues:

1.       Our Constitution clearly states a separation of Church and State.   The State should have nothing to do with anyone’s liberties be it if we agree or disagree politically or religiously.   In that vain the State should have nothing at all to do with defining marriage. It should not even be able to administrate marriage licenses period.   That is government interference.   It does have the obligation to protect everyone’s rights no matter what they believe.   Therefore, as long as rights, taxes,  insurance etc… is defined by who ones partner is it is only right and proper that any adult relationship is legal in the eyes of the law.  What a Church or religion determine is up to them.
2.       As a Born Again Christian for many years I must also take issue with your policy.   Jesus teaches us time and time again not to judge and love no matter what.   Paul teaches that love is the greatest.   I could be completely wrong, but, I will go to my maker with a clear conscience that in everything I try and do I try and do it in the attitude of love.  I am human and fail miserably every day in this, but, always try.   If we are to make judgements on marriage based on Biblical traditions who would be married?  Not many?   Sexual sin is divorce, living together, lust in thought and deed, pornography etc.   If we hold up that standard marriage would be extinct.
We also hear day after day about being a Christian Country and going back to our roots.  I hope and pray for that every day that one day this will be true.   However, we are not and never have been.   From the early days of genocide against the indigenous people, to not everyone being able to have the right basic health care, to trillions and trillions of dollars being spent on weapons to destroy, to millions homeless and hungry, to corporate America and politicians being ruled by greed and making more and more money and on and on.   All against the teaching of Christ we look nothing, nor have ever looked like a Christian Country.

If you really do want a Biblical State based on the teaching of Christ and follow the Church of Acts you will have my support.   Back to  the words of Corinthians “Love is the greatest of these..”   and paraphrasing Christ #LoveWins.

Best Regards,

Richard Coull,

The Woodlands, TX.
